The arrival of the Movie Comic Media (MCM) Expo at the ExCel centre in East London was once again greeted greatly by fans galore. A weekend filled with Japanese anime, computer games, comics, and science fiction! It was my first time visiting the event, and it was definitely worth missing work for!

ロンドン東部のExCelセンターで行われたMovie Comic Mecia(MCM)博覧会は、多くのファン達によって再び温かく迎えられ、週末の会場は日本のアニメやコンピュータゲーム、マンガやSFなどで一杯に埋め尽くされてた。私自身はこのイベントに行ったのは初めてだったが、仕事を休んででも明らかに行く価値のあるイベントであったと思う。

The Japanese anime scene is becoming a lot more popular in the UK in recent years, and the never-ending line to enter the expo proved just that. Some anime fans really raised the bar; as they dressed up in their favourite characters (cosplay). The most popular costume was from the highly rated series Naruto, which can be seen on the Jetix channel on BskyB TV.

ここ数年イギリスにおいて、日本のアニメの人気は更に高まっており、この博覧会の入り口ゲートの途切れることのない人々の列がまさにそれを証明していた。一部のアニメファンは、お気に入りのアニメキャラクターの格好に身を包むことにより（コスプレ）、イベントの水準レベルを更に引き上げていた。一番人気のあったコスプレはBskyB TVのJetixチャンネルで放映されている好評アニメ「NARUTO」からのものであった。

It was nice to see some pretty impressive attempts from fans to look like their anime counter-parts, a lot of the costumes were home made. Admittedly, I wanted to join in the fun, but I was awe-struck to find so many people who have an interest in the MCM event.

お気に入りのアニメの登場人物に似せようとするアニメファン達の非常に見事な試みを目にすることができたのはとても良かったと思う。ちなみに、彼らのコスチュームの殆どが自宅で作成した自作のものであった。正直、自分もその中の一人に混じりたい気持ちもあったが、私はこのMCMのイベントに興味を持っている人々がこれほど多くいるという事実に圧倒されただただ唖然とするばかりであった。

Inside the expo, the was a lot on offer, from screenings of new anime series that are soon to be released, computer game booths where you could get to grasp with the latest comic/anime games. There were areas where a picture competition was taking place, and those who follow the card game Magic, had places to battle each other.

博覧会の内部では、公開間近の新アニメシリーズの放映は、最新のアニメゲームなどを体験できるコンピュータゲームのコーナーなど、様々な催しが行われていた。またマンガコンテストが行われているエリアや、カードゲーム『マジック：ザ・ギャザリング』のファンがお互いバトルができる場所なども設置されていた。

Another interesting aspect of the expo were the special guests that appeared; Stars from TV science fiction series like Stargate SG1, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation and Spook’s all took part in the occasion.? Even the voice actors from the US versions of Naruto and the Full Metal Alchemist came along; signing autographs and pictures for the fans. They all took part in a Q&A on stage, giving the chance for fans to quiz their favourite actors.

この博覧会においてもう一つの興味深い点は、会場に登場したスペシャルゲストの面々である。Stargate SG1や、CSI（Crime Scene Investigation ）やSpook’sなどのテレビのSFシリーズに出演しているスター達が一同に集ったのである。また、「Naruto」や「鋼の錬金術師」のアメリカバージョン吹き替えに出演している声優達とのサイン会や写真撮影会なども行われていた。またステージ上ではファンの人々が直接お気に入りの俳優に質問ができるQ&Aコーナーも行われていた。

Seeing the stars was all good, but I was there for the precious merchandise! Words of advice for when you go to an expo - Always have plenty of money! There was so much that I wanted to buy at the expo, and so I came away with a really stylish bag based on my favourite anime, Samurai Champloo.

スター達を見ることができたことももちろん良かったが、私のお目当ては、会場で売られている貴重な商品の数々であった。もし今後博覧会に行く機会がある方へのアドバイスは、とにかくお金をたくさん持っていくことだ。私もこの博覧会で買いたかったものはたくさんあったのだが、結局私の好きなアニメ「サムライチャンプルー」のイラスト入りのスタイリッシュなバッグだけを買って会場を後にした。

There was plenty on offer, from posters, paintings, expensive and rare pictures of comics and anime, games, DVD’s and many more.

会場には、ポスター、絵画、マンガやアニメのプレミア付のイラスト、ゲーム、DVDなどなど、溢れんばかりの多くの商品が販売されていた。

This year’s turnout was impressive! The next MCM expo in London is going to be held from 26th and 27th May 2007. No doubt it will be jam packed with fun activities, and is definitely a great day out of adults and kids.

今年は大盛況に終わったロンドンでのMCM博覧会、次の開催は2007年5月26日と27日になる予定だ。次回もファンにとってお楽しみがぎっしり詰まったイベントとなり、また大人にとっても子供にとっても楽しめる素晴らしい一日になることは間違いないだろう。
